Draw Life Energy through Oriental Brush Flow – Online

- A deep dive into the beauty of calligraphy ligature in semi-cursive script through ideograph “Qi’’ (“”)

a 2-day online retreat with Yingge Xu & Matt Padwick

Date: Saturday & Sunday, 18 - 19th September, 2021

Time: 09.30am - 5.00pm (Irish time)

If you have already been introduced to East Asian Brush work and are looking to deepen your practice, this is a retreat for you.

During this two-day retreat we will complete a close study ideograph “Qi’’ (“”). As the best way to know an ideograph is to study its formal script, we will begin by reviewing and practising all the strokes and the brush sequence in its formal script, we will then bring our practice one step further - into the semi-cursive mystic brush dance!

On the second day, we will start with brush exercises of calligraphy ligature and then study semi-cursive script of the ideograph “Qi’’ (“”). At the very end of the retreat, we will level up further - join calligraphy strokes and the life energy as One and, hopefully, you will start to feel the flow in your field.

We will begin each session with simple movement and breathing exercises of Kum Nye (a yoga from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition) - suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels - which restores the body’s natural rhythms and calms the mind so we can be present and at ease for our brush journey.

Hi Yingge and Matt! How lovely that there is a follow up course with you. I would love to do it. My (older) Ipad doesn't support Google Chrome so it looks like I would need to follow the course on my (newer but smaller screen) iphone. Would it be large enough, I wonder. Or is there a way I can follow from Ipad (not being techo-minded myself, but maybe someone else has answer?) Blessings along with hopes of joining you again, Clare ,

Dear Louise, it's lovely to hear from you and connect here. The retreat will be host in Zoom, just like what we did for our 6 week course this spring. A bigger screen definitely would be recommended. You could also upgrade your ipad from apple store to the latest version, and it's typically should be free.

Hopefully you will have everything set up and enjoy your retreat. We looking forward to meeting you again 🤗
